St. Jude's vision is to nurture well-rounded, confident world citizens in a secure and inspirational setting that supports students in their social, emotional and academic growth. St. Jude's aims to teach students through planning, inquiry, instruction and assessment in order to prepare students to be conscientious world citizens.
"The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right."

IB Key Concepts
As I was planning my lessons and making these IB posters for the class, I just felt I wanted to share with you new parents and returning parents. I'm glad I teach in an IB school, where teachers consider all these "key concepts" when collaborating and lesson planning.
Here it is an explanation for each "key concept":

Unit of Inquiry
St. Jude's Academy is an IB School and we operate
with IB curriculum, policies and procedures. Please check their website
for more information regarding the program: http://www.ibo.org/
Every IB unit operates under a central idea that acts
as a guideline for the learning and development that will be done in the
unit. Within a school year, you child will complete 4 different units,
all with different focuses and initiatives.
This year we are beginning our first IB unit entitled Who We Are. The
central idea for this unit is “Through play people can discover more
about themselves and others.” In this unit we will be following
3 lines of inquiry that will help direct us. The
lines of inquiry for this unit are:
·
Ways we discover and develop our interests
·
How we learn about others through play
·
Promoting play globally
In Language we will work on our names (writing independently), students will be exposed to "journal writing", which is part of our "Daily Five Program". Daily 5 is the structure we will use in our Language Arts time. Children will be busy completing meaningful literacy tasks. In term one the choices will be:
- Read to self (simple picture books with short sentences)
- Work on writing (correct letter formation - upper and lower case)
- Word Work (letter sounds and blends)
- Listen to reading (story time)
- Read to Someone (look at the pictures and describe to a classmate)

Pete The Cat
One of my favourite stories from Pete The Cat: https://youtu.be/W42oHAqM9N8?list=PLiYzMwyBPG96h9Stk8Mo8IoM3t6tXOYec
This simple story talks about being open-minded as we all have different talents.
Enjoy watching with your child!

Hello!
Dear Parents,
I hope you are having a terrific summer!
This blog is one of the several ways to communicate and be aware of what goes on in your child's school life. I usually post what we did during the day, pictures and videos. Make sure to check everyday, you don't want to miss out!
